Eight-Spotted Forester Moth

Description:

Family: Noctuidae, Subfamily: Agaristinae. (Wood-Nymphs and Foresters) A common Forester moth day-flying in flowery meadows and open woodlands. Length: 16-20 mm. Black FW (blue scales not apparent in this moth) with 2 large white spots on each wing. Black HW with 2 more white spots on each wing. Black thorax has yellow tegulae. Legs are showy with orange tufts. Hosts: Grape and Virginia Creeper. Adults feed on flower nectar during daytime.

Habitat:

Woodlands edges and meadows with abundant flowers. Found in garden near front porch light.

Notes:

I put the moth on the daisy. It was not feeding on the daisy although it feeds on variety of flower nectar, I don't know if daisy is one of them. My last photo was for Flag Day and 4th of July. Being artsy. LOL
