This gorgeous butterfly has a black upper body with white patches on the lower body. Smaller than tiger swallowtails.

thank you forestdragon, i do see the markings now. I knew those were markings of a spicebush, i just neglected to look closely because they are so similar. Thanks again!

Nice series! The markings are very similar but there is an orange marking that is missing from the outer wing. Compare your last image with this one: http://bugguide.net/node/view/347966
