Himalayan Treepie

Dendrocitta formosae

Description:

Long tailed-crow-like bird.

Habitat:

I stayed at a homestay at Mukteshwar, a sleepy tourist spot above Nainital, India. The land lady had put out many bird feeders. This bird seemed to be a regular and knew when the table was replenished.

Notes:

The area had many tall fruit trees and we ate many fruits (plums, peaches, apricots) that the birds had pecked and discarded. I wonder if the birds called it feeding the humans. There is a belief here that fruits pecked and dropped by the birds are the sweetest...I can attest to that.
