sulphur-crested cockatoo

Description:

This sulphur-crested cockatoo appeared in my yard/neighborhood for about a week and decimated my fruit crops. It was no doubt semi-feral meaning that someone nearby had obtained a wild bird and had succeeded in partially habituating it to humans. They are still plentiful in parts of wild Papua.Thankfully it went away after a week or so...

Habitat:

Perched in a guava tree (Psidium) in a large semi-urban yard & garden, near a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest, in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

I have never met a captive sulphur-crested cockatoo that was both healthy and well-adjusted. I have seen many in this part of the world and they have all been destructive and/or aggressive, often given to plucking their own feathers out. I have also seen many in the wild. That is where they belong.
