Bald Eagle

Description:

The bald eagle is a bird of prey with a wingspan of 5.6 to 7.9 ft. Adults have a white head and tail and dark brown body. Immature bald eagles are more difficult to identify, as their head and tail are brown. They attain full adult plumage in their fourth or fifth year.

Habitat:

Bald eagles select nest sites near lakes and rivers in forested areas where tall, large trees are available for nesting. In Minnesota, red pines, white pines, cottonwoods, and aspen are most often selected for nesting.

Notes:

This bald eagle was spotted at the Chippewa Picnic Area on Hwy 26 on the edge of the Otter Tail River.
