Horned Lark

Description:

Female and male Horned Lark taking turns finding food outside the tern colony. Female is similar to the male but the horns and mustache are paler and there is less white and more grey. The pattern on the back is more prominent on the female then the male. She also seemed to be a better hunter. Nesting inside the colony, there is no competition for food as the terns eat mainly fish. There is the Killdeer that also feeds in the same area as the Horned Larks.

Habitat:

Same as the Killdeer here. Flat surface to spy predators and prey. These were spotted nesting in the tern colony.
