Tolypocladium Fungus

Tolypocladium sp.

Description:

Black fungus with a bumpy top. I found one that looks like it was stepped on and it white inside (photo 2).

Habitat:

Sandy soil at Newnans Lake Conservation Area.

Notes:

I tried to dig it up to find the "deer truffle" underground and see what it looked like, but it broke off easily and the ground was a bit too hard.
