Flammulina velutipes

Description:

small, clustered, sticky, reddish-brown caps, lighter near margin. some caps up to 1 1/4 in. diameter, most smaller than 1/2 in. diameter. Gills creamy white, attached. Stalk white near cap, then darker at base, becoming nearly black in older specimens. Velvety, especially in younger specimens.

Habitat:

on a dead deciduous tree in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.

Notes:

produced a white (very dense) spore print
