Phylum: Ascomycota Subphylum: Pezizomycotina Order: Xylariales Family: Xylariaceae Genus: Camillea Species: Camillea leprieurii Unusual 1/8" (.32cm) diameter 1 1/4" (3.25cm) long black and white tubular fungus on tree trunk about 1m (3ft) above jungle floor.
Although this group was on a LIVE tree, most are seen on fallen/dead branches/trees in the South American rainforests (Peru/Ecuador +).
Spores are ejected from the tubes and travel some distance (as cited in Kew Gardens notes).

Another great contribution. Thank you for adding these great fungi shots. I think we might be able to give this one the common name of "cigarette fungus" :-)
