Cypripedium acaule (Orchid family)
The Moccasin or Pink Lady's Slipper is of the Orchid has two oval leaves which are from six to eight inches long. They grow from the base of the flower stalk. Each plant has only one stem and one flower. One pink (some white) petal is puffed up to look like the tow of a slipper. We visited the area a week to soon and these are not quite out yet.
Northern areas. Conifer forests
They blanket the ground around the Great Lake Averill.
