Northern Yellow Shafted Flicker

Colaptes auratus

Description:

A type of woodpecker that spends a lot of time on the ground. They mainly dig in the ground for ants, beetles, and other insects that they eat. There are two different types of northern shafted flickers: the red shafted and the yellow shafted.

Habitat:

Open habitats near trees.

Notes:

So far I have only found this feather. I am hoping to see the actual bird soon, and hopefully get a photo as well!
