Jonathan, Thanks for the information (description & habitat) on your spotting.
You could check out the family Campanulaceae for wild flowers in your area. From what I can make out in your photos, these look like very much like Wahlenbergia species that we find here but, this is not found in North America.
Also, you could check Project Noah for spottings of these "blue-bells" from the US to see if there are any matches.
