Meadow Jumping Mouse

(Zapus hudsonius)

This little mouse was found in an old farm field that is adjacent to deciduous woods that are mostly dominated by Oaks, Maples, and Beech Trees, a perfect habitat for this species. In Michigan there is also another mouse that looks nearly identical to the Meadow Jumping Mouse, that mouse is called the Woodland Jumping Mouse (Napaeozapus insignis). Woodland Jumping Mice can be found in Michigan mostly in the Upper Peninsula in coniferous woods. This Meadow Jumping Mouse can found throughout the entire state of Michigan, and the area of Michigan that I found this mouse doesn't have Woodland Jumping Mice, so it made identification pretty easy.
