Spotting

Description:

It's a moss that's fuzzy. Grows in my back porch every year. Sometimes sprouts little string like plants called sporophytes (thank you RexFantastic).

Habitat:

My back porch, in cracks.

A moss is a plant, an ancient kind of simple plant that doesn't have roots.

You might be thinking of lichens, which are fungi that contain algae cells to absorb light for energy like plants. They often appear very similar to mosses and frequently grow on rocks and trees right along side mosses. But this is definitely a moss, not a lichen.

Definitely looks like a moss. The little string like plants are probably sporophytes, the moss's spore producing reproductive organs.
