Sweetbay Silk Moth

Callosamia securifera

Description:

A large moth with a wingspan of 7.5-10 cm. They are found from coastal Virginia south to the Florida panhandle and west to Louisiana.

Habitat:

Host plant for the caterpillar is the sweetbay magnolia.

Notes:

This lovely moth spent the day resting on the side of our house near the kitchen window.
