Description:

Mature males have a pruinose (whitish) tail and large black splotches on the wings (second photo). Females (first photo) have three black splotches on each wing and a darker tail. Adults average about 1.7 in in length.

Habitat:

These insects breed in wetlands and ponds, but often venture into upland areas to feed.
