Ropalidia sp.
About 1 cm in size. Golden brown colour.
Acasia woodland, next to a waterhole. Dry season
I was very happy when I spotted this ant. I have a thing for ants... It was very well camouflaged and sitting completely still on the Acacia tree branch. Since I have to get really close in order to take reasonable pictures, I noticed that this ant had wings... Ah even better, a flying ant! After I twisted and turned the twig a bit the ant got tired of the attention and flew away without a sound... Finally back home I went through the photos and I realize that it is a darn wasp!!! The reality of a "non-biologist" haha Photo taken at Hlane Royal National Park, Swaziland
It's always good to share the same idea with bayucca, it means there is still hope for us, one day we will be able to identify a lot easier :)
Oh, I just noticed that Faredin had already the genus! Sorry, that's always my problem, that I do not read all the previous comments...
Ha Bayucca! Quite a few... You are still a dentist! That is scary ppl! :D
And brother Faredin, your qualified guess gave result, a big thanks to you as well :)
Rock? I prefer classics ;-)...
How many IDs I would need that a bigger part of you loves me??
A few? You rock bayucca! I would even say that a small part of me loves you lol
I will look it up later this evening ! Thanks a lot!

Just a few links for illustration. Please, verify!
Interesting link injica :) I like that even if I dont have an ID, there are all this nice information you gain around a spotting that is very interesting! Sometimes the way to the identification is more fun that the actual ID :)
Wow great the body shape reminds me of Ancistrocerus http://www.biology.ualberta.ca/bsc/ejour...
Yes, lets hope some secret intelligence will come up with the ID. It looks amazing so would be nice to learn something about it.
I know Sckel, it is a bit funny! I dont have anything or anyone to blame for my mistake either... :D Faredin, there are a lot of things that they have in common... The antennae, the butt, and the wings pointed downwards... You are on something here...
It resembles too much this species but looks like they are found only in Australia, 'Ropalidia revolutionalis' :) but at least should be from genus 'Ropalidia' since it looks so similar.
This is a wasp with a different butt. Gorgeous! I loved the color. I'm trying to think how you can confuse with an ant. ^^
