Western Skunk Cabbage

Lysichiton americanus

Description:

An unusual yellow flowering plant with large, short-stalked leaves. It emits a powerful odor similar to that of a skunk.

Habitat:

Swamps and wet woods, along streams and in other wet areas of the Pacific Northwest.

Notes:

I thought this was an unusual little plant on our first walk down to the beach. After a few days of hiking, we have seen literally thousands upon thousands of them in the rainforest.
