California Condor

Gymnogyps californianus

Description:

Adult Condors have black feathers with a large triangular patch of white feathers on the underside of the wings. Their bill is ivory colored with a bald head and grey feet. Their skin color varies from reddish- orange to yellow. Young condors have dark brown feathers and a black head. Condors have tracking tags with numbers on the underside of their wings.

Habitat:

The condors live in rocky shrubland, coniferous forests, and oak savannas.They are often found near cliffs or large trees, which they use as nesting sites. Individual birds have a huge range and have been known to travel up to 250 km (150 mi) in search of carrion.

Spotted 8-10 condors flying around Mather Point at the Grand Canyon National Park.
