Mossmax, I'm wondering if this is more likely to be fireweed (Chamerion angustifolium) than purple loosestrife? They do resemble each other and both are blooming right now, but the flowers on purple loosestrife are smaller and tighter to a spreading branched structure. I'm thinking this is fireweed, but you may want to look at the ID again.
