Wool carder bee; Abeja cortadora de hojas

Anthidium florentinum

Description:

Megachilidae bee, very robust and covered with small hair. Ca. 2 cm in size. Probably it is a mail due to the white hairs on the side of the abdomen. It is a great flowers pollinator. This bee was hovering all the time around a lavender flowered plant, clearly in a territorial attitude, chasing away others bees approaching. Females make the nests covering the inside with chewed plant fibers.

Habitat:

Spotted in house garden on a lavender flowered plant.
