Grey Huntsman

Holconia immanis

Description:

One of the largest huntsman in Australia, their body is flattened to allow them to hide under foliage etc. It eats insects & other invertebrates. Mostly nocturnal, when disturbed it can move very fast, even sideways.

Habitat:

This was found in coastal scrub.

Thanks Martin. Maybe it's that difference makes them look so scary to me! I like them from a distance, but will not sleep with one in my room. In saying that, I'm trying to learn to love them :)

Nice spotting Leanne. I like huntsmen(?). Huntsman spiders have all retrograde joints. Most spiders hold two pairs of legs forward and two back. Usually when standing still and certainly when backing into tight corners all legs are 'forward' and all their knees (elbows) point backwards.
