Polyphemus Moth

Antheraea polyphemus

Description:

What appeared to be a mushroom from a distance was actually this "little" guy, whose body looked to be about 3"-4" long. With its wings curled up, estimating their span is a little difficult, as is seeing the patterns and colours. The second image shows part of the top of the wing, revealing red and white bands, some vibrant orange and yellow tones, and large dark eyespots.

Habitat:

Local garden in an urban environment.
