strange fungi, about 4" tall, see last photo to show it releasing its spores
semi arid dry tropical forest
I spotted a few of these fungi growing along the road in Tatacoa desert. I was surprised to see so much fungi in a place so dry but they must be living off the moisture from the rains which had finished a few weeks before I arrived.

Welcome, Dan. I know exactly how you feel. Many times, I have seen insects I didn't notice in the frame after getting home and uploading my pics.
Thanks Kunzah. Yeah, the last photo is it kind of releasing it's spores I'm guessing. It was kind of like a mushroomed shaped puffball. Good eyes for the caterpillar. I always thought it was just a scar on the cap and never looked at it too closely. With so many photos from a trip, sometimes I miss the little details like that that others catch.
Wow, exotic. In the last photo, it may be a wrinkled fold of the cap, but there appears to be a small worm or caterpillar toward the left side of the cap...?
It's kind feinho.
Thanks Luis and irowe.
Cool
Nice series!
