Alaskan fireweed

Chamerion angustifolium

Description:

A herb with purple flowers green leaves and a red stem. Although its a herb that is used to make honey from its pollen and used for medicine by the Native Americans. It got its name fireweed cause it is usually the first plant to grow after a forest fire and it grows as fast as weeds. So that is the reason for its name.

Habitat:

Found in open spaces with lots of light. It usually dies out when trees grow next to it. Or other plant matter.

Notes:

I find them usually at the forest edge or next to a pond, lake, river being somewhat far from trees. Also have been found in between open spaces in the woods where light shines through.
