Hairy Woodpecker

Picoides villosus

Description:

The bird is approximately 6-7 inches long. It is mainly black on the upper parts and wings, with white marking on the wings and a white underside.

Habitat:

Woodpecker was on tree in our backyard habitat eating insects that were climbing the tree while the sprinkler system was going off.

Notes:

This woodpecker likes to stays under the treed canopy. Lighting was poor.
