Crested pigeon

Ocyphaps lophotes

Description:

A sturdy pigeon about 30cm long. Bars on flanks. A distinctive erect spike on the head. Grey with black bars and flecks. Sometimes a pink hue shows near shoulders.

Habitat:

These were found in a well treed state park beside a large reservoir..

Notes:

Very cold conditions. This species was plentiful. Considering they are mostly seed eaters there weren't many seeds in the immediate area... maybe grasses in the nearby hills.?

You're right Shanna ... they were all like that. I wonder if that's because of the fact that last week it was snowing on the hills nearby?? Built in doona maybe. Thanks Neil.
