Could be a case of unusual Ant Mandibles.
I am not sure which species of Ant this is but, Ectatomma tuberculatum have especially large mandibles, in which the masticatory margin becomes greatly lengthened, and lacks noticeable teeth .They are down turned too.

Sorry Jemma I don't agree. Many, if not most, ant mouth parts are designed to incise laterally so any 'curve' or 'blade' is in the lateral plane. Search 'ant mouthparts' in google images and you might see what I mean. This one has a distinct downturn.

It was nice to find this big ant. I like ants. A ant just sitting on a branch, thinking of their existence.
