Chinese Mantid

Tenodera sinensis sinensis

Description:

Green, long, and had what appeared to be wings

Habitat:

Grassy areas and hidden under bushes and leaves.

Notes:

It is a really nice looking praying mantis I found under a bush in my front yard. It is actually my first time seeing a live praying mantis.

Great find Jakory! It's interesting that the wing is out like that. When they feel threatened they will sometimes display their wings and try to look bigger than they are.

By the way, Sphodromantis viridis or African Mantis, doesn't occur in the United States. They also look a bit different. I am pretty sure this is a Chinese Mantid.
