Family Lycaenidae
At first, I thought it was an insect covered with Cordyceps fungus. Then, looking more closely, I thought it was a small dry and dead caterpillar, because of the color and for being absolutely still. I started to take some pictures just for the files and to my surprise, it started to move! One of the most spectacular caterpillars I've ever seen! Anyone have any idea of ID? My friend Lucas Kaminski told me that it is possibly from a Kolana ligurina butterfly, like this one: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/877...

Karen, thank you so much for granting me this honor again. I came to know caterpillars through time, and fell in love with them. It is very, very good to know that other people know also see its beauty and originality. Thanks also to all who commented and liked this spotting, I'm really glad you have enjoyed it.

Extremely unusual and so unique. Great shots!
Damn, you're right, of course, bayucca. Thanks for bringing it up. My friend Lucas Kaminski told me that it is possibly a K. ligurina caterpillar, so I added a link to my previous spotting of that butterfly. Mark and Maria, thank you for the comments.
Incredible.
Might indeed be a Lycaenidae?? But then it is a butterfly not a moth ;-)...
Very cool - especially like the last two photos where you can see the head!
