Bee-Like Robber Fly

Laphria sacrator

Habitat:

Woodland habitat

Notes:

What I though were two bumble bees mating turned into another surprising first spotting. The mating bee-like robber flies landed close enough to get a couple of shots, but could not get a side shot. I ended up scaring them off. They were quite large in comparison to actual bumble bees. This was a very convincing mimic, as they had me fooled until I got the viewfinder on them.
