Description:

Family: Nymphalidae. Subfamily: Heliconiinae. (Lesser Fritillaries) Common. Males and females look identical, but coloring can be slightly variable. Upperside orange/red with heavy black markings. Underside or hindwing patterned with orange and purple brown. Wingspan: 35-51 mm. Adults feed on variety of plants including goldenrod, black-eyed Susan, daisy and dandelion. Larval food is violets.

Habitat:

Meadow with abundant plants.
