A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Family: Psychodidae
A very small furry fly, about 5 mm long. Wings were ovate furry with black and white patterns.Thorax also had black and white patterns and was clothed with dense setae. Legs were banded and antennae appeared to have segments. Looked very much like a moth.
Spotted on a wall - flying around damp mortar.
Need to get better shots next time ! These flies are true Dipterans. Their larvae are said to be semi-aquatic living off algae and bacteria on damp places. Also called "drain flies" often seen in bathroooms.
