Silver Bordered Fritillary (Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary)

Boloria selene

Description:

Orange with black markings. Underside of hind-wind has metallic silver spots. Wingspan:1 3/8 - 2 1/8 inches (3.5 - 5.4 cm)

Habitat:

This butterfly inhabits wet meadows, bogs & marshes.

Notes:

I observed this little butterfly flitting around the thistle flowers on our local marsh trail. It wasn't too concerned about my presence and allowed me to get a few pictures. For the most part it kept its wings open as it was eating.
