Commom Checkered Skipper

Description:

This small skipper is marked by a blue or black body, and white and brown bands on the wings. The Common Checkered is not easy to identify because it closely resembles other skippers.

Habitat:

This butterfly flies in gardens, parks, fields, roadsides, riverbanks, lowlands and foothills throughout southern Canada and almost the entire expanse of the United States. It has also been seen in Mexico.

Notes:

The pic of the more brown in appearance butterfly is the female...the other a male. It's the angle of view that gives the different colors of appearance. I originally thought they were two different butterflies.
