Virginian Tiger Moth (Caterpillar)

Spilosoma virginica

Description:

Fuzzy, bright orange caterpillar with some black towards the head. This one that I found has an orange head, but I think they can have black heads too.

Habitat:

I found this caterpillar resting on a pineapple weed at the bottom of the steps.

Notes:

This caterpillar moved very quickly. It was difficult to get good pictures of him. The only time he settled down was when he was back on the pineapple weed, where he promptly started eating.
