Mountain avens

Dryas octopetala


The Mountain avens is an arctic-alpine plant in the Rosaceae family. The flowers have eight creamy white petals - hence the species name octopetala. In Iceland, where it is the national flower, it flowers in May and June.

The plant's actual leaves are not the ones seen on the foreground, but can bee seen at the back on the top and right edge on the 3rd shot. The same species spotted in the Alps can be seen here:
