Gopher Tortoise

Gopherus polyphemus

Notes:

I asked this gopher tortoise in the middle of the trail at Torreya State park for a portrait... He wasn't very cooperative, but I can't really blame him. He was only about the size of my fist. I found out later that Gopher Tortoises are listed as a Species of Special Concern in Florida... which basically means they're endangered, and now somewhat protected.
