Acanthocephala terminalis
About 3/4 of an inch long.
Spotted on a bush in a field bordering a horse stable.
I too took some to identify the right way because I was misled by the body shape initially.. then when I realized that it was a nymph, the question has arisen to what species it belonged... some bugs are so similar that it's only the geographical location to determine the final choice! Good job! :)
Part of my difficulty in IDing this is the fact that it's a nymph. The link you provided was the key. I checked at BugGuide for the ranges of the two. :)
I'm quite sure it's A. terminalis. Femorata doesn't range this far north. Again, thanks, valentinezza.
Thank you very much for the suggestions, valentinezza. You haven't confused me at all. They give me something to work from. I'm sure I'll nail it down now.
I hope that I haven't confused your ideas, but I can't say which of the two might be, maybe you can know better than me. :)
