Blue Billygoat Weed

Ageratum houstonianum

Description:

Blue Billygoat Weed (aka Floss Flower) is an environmental weed, and is an invasive species in Australia. Often found in grazing country, Ageratum houstonianum is toxic to grazing animals, causing liver lesions. Usually an invader of disturbed sites, degraded pastures, roadsides and neglected areas.

Habitat:

This spotting was found along a creek course, but the species is usually associated with horse paddocks. There are plenty of those in the Bryden area, and this is grazing country.

Notes:

Why is this weed associated with billygoats? Perhaps because the weed is toxic but billygoats can eat anything? Beats me! This spotting was also at the same location, alongside the weeds - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/304...
