Stumbled upon this butterfly lek in an old fire ring while hiking in the Pisgah Forest next to the North Mills River.

Don't know Chris but I was thinking a mammal might have urinated on it too.
Interesting! Was the fire recently put out? I ask because the butterflies probably congregated there to pick up salts (from urine, a common habit).
