Pantala flavescens
Pantala flavescens (Fabricius, 1798), family Libellulidae (Chasers, Skimmers and Darters), subfamily Pantalinae. Common names are Globe Skimmer, Wandering Glider, Globe Wanderer, Libellule Globe Trotter. It is considered to be the most widespread dragonfly on the planet, a circumtropical species known from all continents crossed by the equator. It is an obligate migrant of which the migrations are linked to the monsoon front. With length of 49-52mm, it is a large, tawny to yellowish brown dragonfly. The abdomen is yellowish with a dark mid-dorsal line widening towards the rear. The wings are exceptionally broad and reach to S5 of the abdomen when outstretched. It has no known major widespread threats that is unlikely to be declining fast enough to qualify for listing in a threatened category, it is therefore assessed as Least Concern.
