A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Bombus sp.
It does not produce honey, Its body is larger (2cm) and stronger than the "Apis spp." gender but, believe, It is a bee. Mamangaba or Mamangava is one of the most important polen carriers in Brazilian ecossystems. It occurs in a large spectre of colours. That one in the picture occurs at Southern Atlantic Forest (Sao Paulo State/Brazil). The social behavior of mamangava differs from Apis gender: the queen stablishes the nest by itself. In that specie queen-bee does not need workers to build up the nest, usually settled on the ground, or a pile of wood, in abondoned birds or rats nests.
All Brazilian ecossystems. Can be also found in gardens or others antropized habitat.
