Purple Yam

Dioscorea alata

Description:

Purple yam. An invasive vine. The yam portion is a tuber underground. These potato looking things are the fruit.

Habitat:

Woods

Notes:

I checked this species out on USDA Plants Database and there is no record of it in South Carolina. I guess I've proved its here if it is actually Dioscorea alata
