Banded-Owl Butterfly

Caligo atreus dionysos

It was so large I thought it was a bird!! This is the most beautiful butterfly I have ever seen!! the snake on the wind was so real it was scary!! the marks on the body and wings remind me of tigers and zebras... when the wings open the most incredible purple/blue and bright yellow spots left me speechless.

I am almost sure it is a Owl Butterfly, the only problem I encounter is that I could not find any pictures or comments about the colors/design of the top wings?!

Thank you so much, Adarsha.
Send a message to FB.. : )

Thank you for the advise, dotun55, we were very careful and set it free unharmed.

Thank you, Sergio Monteiro. It was fantastic.

Fantastic! I hope to meet this one someday.
As they are very fragile creatures, I advise that you refrain from handling butterflies in manners portrayed in the photos.

Very lucky, I was so excited to see that beauty. Thank you, ChicquitaRajawali
