Male Stag Beetle Head



Stag beetles are a group of about 1,200 species of beetle in the family Lucanidae, presently classified in four subfamilies Some species grow up to over 12 cm, but most are about 5 cm.

Like walking through the woods and suddenly seeing a deer skull, as I was walking through the park with my daughter I just so happened to look down at the right moment. The body was no where to be found, but his pinchers were so impressive I still took a couple photos of it.
