Malformed Monarch Chrysalis

Danaus plexippus

Description:

A malformed Monarch chrysalis. The dark green stripes represent the missing antennae, forelegs, and proboscis of the butterfly forming inside. Sadly, this butterfly never eclosed.

Habitat:

Milkweed plant, unplowed field, rural deciduous area, Clermont County

Notes:

Fun fact: The gold spots on the chrysalis are breathing holes.
