Black-spotted Moth

Ethmia eupostica

Description:

A narrow white moth with a wing span of about 20 mm. Forewings had black spots and bars and a broader black area near the margins. Legs were banded and eyes, black.

Habitat:

Spotted near a football oval near native trees.

Notes:

This moth was initially identified as E.postica but Peter Marriott corrected the ID to E.eupostica explaining "It is also more likely to be in the state than E. postica which is certainly a more northern species....The 1985 paper by Powell on the Ethmia shows specimens from all mainland state including three from Vic - two the north west (Hattah and Ouyen) and another from Moe. These three records are for March". My thanks to Peter Marriott for the ID and information. Family: Ethmiidae
