Amsinckia menziesii
Amsinckia menziesii is a species of plant in the Boraginaceae family, the borage or forget-me-not family. Stem is erect and covered with tiny hairs or bristles (as are the leaves). Tiny yellow flowers are clustered at the terminations. Flowers have a calyx with 5 lobes - tube yellow with wide unrestricted throat with or without red dots. Pale yellow-flowered forms usually do not have red dots in throat. Can grow to 15 in. tall
Spotted in open sagebrush grassland at the Whiskey Dick Wilderness Area. Prefers open meadows and shrub-steppe. Range is western North America.
Its seeds are the favorite food of Lawrence's goldfinch during that Californian bird's nesting season of spring and early summer.
