Thank you so much J. I am really a beginner in spotting Arthropods,its great to get help in differentiating. Because, to me , both these species didn't make much difference. But, I guess, specially in small animals, these small things make up all the difference.

Hi namitha! If you look at photos of A. passalis, the red is on the upper part of the forewing too, but in Amata alicia it does not. Amata alicia to my knowledge is only found in Africa as well.

Is it the white spots on its wings which make the difference between the two species?

Hi J, I have one doubt. Are you sure about the species name, because I saw this photo in wikipedia [looks very similar to this spotting] . But, the species there is different. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Amata_...
I am not very good at Id ing moths. So, its just an observation.
